In June, Jennifer Godinez, MMEP associate director, attended the Informational Summit from the Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME): Higher Education. The summit brought together U.S. and Mexican public policy experts and officials to discuss transnational cooperation that furthers the goal of increasing educational levels and economic progress in both countries.

MMEP Welcomes New Advocacy Fellow
Brandon Royce-Diop has been selected as the 2011 MMEP Advocacy Fellow and will provide critical support to the African American Males in Education Advisory committee in the areas of leadership, networking and development. Read more about Brandon and the work he will be doing with MMEP.

What do the Census Figures Reveal for Minnesota - Our Innovation Talent Pool Rising
The 2010 Census figures for MN show a large boost in communities of color, particularly in the Latino community, indicating larger growth projections for students of color in our K12 system. MMEP’s last State of Students of Color and American Indian Studentsreport show test scores & HS grad rates among these students are still of major concern. So, prior to our youth contributing their talents to our economic prosperity, we must get it right in education. See MMEP’s “Covenant” for more ideas on solutions and goals to meet our state’s economic need for more talent.

MMEP has agreed to collaborate with the Minnesota Department of Education [MDE] to build statewide capacity to support effective, sustainable and coordinated dropout prevention and reentry programs in middle schools and high schools with dropout rates that exceed the state average.
