    The Black-White Achievement Gap

    The Black-White Achievement Gap: When Progress Stopped There is widespread awareness that there is a very substantial gap between the educational achievement of the white and the black population in our nation, and that the gap is as old as the nation itself. This report is about changes in the size of that gap, beginning with the first signs of a narrowing that occurred at the start of the last century, and continuing on to the end of the first decade of the present century.

    The extent to which a society utilizes its human potential is among the chief determinants of its prosperity. In the United States, one focus of concern in this regard has been the existence of a so-called achievement gap in education between certain groups of students and others.

    Achievement Gap Initiative

    The Achievement Gap Initiative (AGI) is a university-wide effort initiated by the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) to focus academic research, public education, and innovative outreach activities toward eliminating achievement gaps.
